Enjoy a variety of film events and glimpse some coming attractions you can expect to see at Railroad Square Cinema throughout the year. Check out the new digital projection equipment and be the first to see the plans for the cinema’s lobby renovations and landscaping improvements.

PLEASE NOTE: Railroad Square Cinema passes and memberships will be accepted for these screenings, subject to availability. A portion of available tickets will be reserved for at door purchase.
FRIDAY, MAY 3
5:00-6:30 p.m.: Opening Night Party with food and beverages from Barrels Community Market, Tree Spirits, and Oak Pond Brewery; Live music by the Katie Daggett Quartet, featuring Katie Daggett (guitar/vocals), Peter Herman (electric guitar), Sean Finn (bass), and Mark Macksoud (drums/background “oohs & aaaahs”).
6:30 p.m.: Opening Ceremony (with speakers including Colby College President Bro Adams, Waterville Mayor Karen Heck, Maine Film Center Executive Director Shannon Haines), followed by a screening of BEYOND THE HILLS, Best Actress and Best Screenplay Winner, Cannes Film Festival.
9:30 p.m.: ROOM 237. The most mind-bending film of the year looks at THE SHINING (see Saturday night) through amazing interpretations and theories.
SATURDAY, MAY 4
1:00 p.m.: Film Seminar with Colby College Cinema Studies Professor Steve Wurtzler and a screening of SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS, Alexander MacKendrick’s brilliantly acerbic satire of ’50s American culture with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis.
4:30 p.m.: THE REVOLUTIONARY OPTIMISTS. 100% Rotten Tomatoes ratings for this new film about Kolkata kids changing their world, from Waterville’s own Shadow Distribution.
7:00 p.m. BLUEBIRD. Sneak Preview Pre-Premiere Screening of a major new made-in-Maine feature, with director Lance Edmands and producer Kyle Martin introducing.
9:30 p.m.: THE SHINING. Kubrick’s original horror thriller (and the basis of ROOM 237, showing Friday) in a new DCP version.
SUNDAY, MAY 5
1:00 p.m.: FROM UP ON POPPY HILL and Japanese food tasting! The brilliant new animated film from Japan’s Studio Ghibli, which has been drawing fantastic reviews. For ages 8 through adult (English subtitles), with food provided by Mirakuya Japanese Restaurant
3:00 p.m.: THE COMPANY YOU KEEP with special guest Mark Rudd, original member of The Weather Underground, the subject of Robert Redford’s new film, currently playing at the Square.
5:30 p.m.: Closing Reception with Coffee, Tea and Sweets from Selah Tea Cafe.
